class=\"content__body\">\n<p>President Trump called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign on Thursday, prompting a slide in the technology company&#8217;s stock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The CEO of Intel is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately,&#8221; Mr. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114987288040725570\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">posted<\/a> on Truth Social, without providing additional details. &#8220;There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Intel did not immediately respond to CBS MoneyWatch&#8217;s request for comment. Its shares slipped 64 cents, or 3%, to $19.77 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The president&#8217;s call for Tan&#8217;s resignation comes after Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, sent a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-to-intel-ceos-ties-to-china-are-concerning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">letter<\/a>\u00a0to Intel Chairman Frank Yeary on Tuesday expressing concern over Tan&#8217;s investments and ties to Chinese businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Tan reportedly controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms,&#8221; Cotton wrote in the letter. &#8220;At least eight of these companies reportedly have ties to the Chinese People&#8217;s Liberation Army.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cotton went on to mention Cadence Design Systems, the multinational tech company where Tan served as CEO from 2009 to 2021, and which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/cadence-design-systems-agrees-plead-guilty-and-pay-over-140-million-unlawfully-exporting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0last week to unlawfully exporting its products to a Chinese military university and transferring its technology to an associated Chinese semiconductor company without obtaining licenses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These illegal activities occurred under Mr. Tan&#8217;s tenure,&#8221; Cotton wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The senator asked Yeary to respond to a series of questions on Tan&#8217;s ties to the Chinese companies by Aug. 15.<\/p>\n<p>Tan, a technology investor and veteran of the semiconductor industry, was appointed as CEO of Intel in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__meta--contributors\">\n<p>                      <span class=\"byline__author__text\">The Associated  Press<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        contributed to this report.\n    <\/p>\n<p>    <!-- data-recirc-source=\"queryly\" --><\/p>\n<aside class=\"component list recirculation component--type-recirculation \">\n<p><h3 class=\"component__title\">More from CBS News<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>    <!-- tags --><\/p>\n<div class=\"content-author\">\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/team\/mary-cunningham\/\" class=\"content-author__name\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Mary  Cunningham<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"content-author__bio\">\n<div class=\"content-author__full-information\">\n<p class=\"content-author__text\">Mary Cunningham is a reporter for CBS MoneyWatch.
