Free users are excluded from the rollout, but OpenAI says that Enterprise and Edu users will get access \u201cin the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/7\/18\/24200714\/openai-new-cheaper-smarter-model-gpt-4o-mini\">GPT-4o mini<\/a>, the more affordable and efficiency-focused model that OpenAI launched last year, is also being replaced with GPT-4.1 mini as the default option in ChatGPT for all users, including free accounts. Users on paid accounts will also see GPT-4o mini replaced by GPT-4.1 mini in the model picker options. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/gpt-4-1\/\">Both GPT-4.1 and GPT\u20114.1 mini<\/a> are optimized for coding tasks and instruction following, and outperform GPT\u20114o and GPT\u20114o mini \u201cacross the board,\u201d according to OpenAI. Both of the new models support a one million context token window \u2014 the amount of text, images, or videos in a prompt that an AI model can process \u2014 that greatly surpasses GPT-4o\u2019s 128,000-token limit. OpenAI says that speed improvements also make GPT-4.1 more appealing for everyday coding tasks compared to the powerful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/649941\/openai-o3-o4-mini-model-images-reasoning\">OpenAI o3 &amp; o4-mini reasoning models<\/a> it introduced in April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/647896\/openai-chatgpt-gpt-4-1-mini-nano-launch-availability\">made available to developers last month<\/a>, alongside the GPT-4.1 nano model, which OpenAI described as its \u201csmallest, fastest, and cheapest\u201d offering to date.
