Kindles are great for taking all your books in one handy place when you go on holiday<\/a>. Forget lugging paperbacks and hardbacks around with you in your suitcase, taking up unnecessary weight, because this can be shoved into your personal bag with no drama.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And when you\u2019re reading poolside, it\u2019s great, because your arms aren\u2019t going to feel that unwanted ache when you\u2019re holding a physical book<\/a>. It\u2019s just a thin, lightweight device which can be held in any position of your liking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Bookworm George also pointed out if you\u2019re reading in the pool and you accidentally drop your Kindle<\/a>, it isn\u2019t the end of the world, because the device will still work underneath the surface of the water.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He joked that \u201cgoggles [are] needed\u201d if you want to actually read your book underwater, but he wanted to show off how easy it is to use as he said: \u201cThe best part about owning a Kindle.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

George then dipped his Kindle into the swimming pool, and was still able to read it easily. He lifted it out of the water, and it was still working.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, in the comments, someone pointed out you need to check which Kindle you\u2019ve got before following George\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMake sure it is a Paperwhite before trying this,\u201d they urged. Another added: \u201cAnd make sure it\u2019s the right Paperwhite lol.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They continued by stating which Paperwhite Kindles are actually waterproof, and wrote: \u201cThe 10th, 11th and 12th generation Paperwhites and the 9th and 10th generation Oasis models. Of course, the ColourSoft Kindle as well.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Amazon explained: \u201cIt features an IPX8 rating, meaning it is designed to withstand accidental immersion in up to 2 metres of fresh water for up to 60 minutes, so you can safely read by the pool, in the bath, or at the beach.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, Amazon advised against intentional immersion in soapy water, beverages, or prolonged exposure to salt water. If this happens, you should immediately rinse the device with fresh tap water.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It\u2019s probably best not to intentionally get your Kindle wet, especially if you have a protective case on it, as many do, as the case may not be waterproof, and it could ruin it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Also, do not attempt to charge the device if it gets wet, as this could cause serious damage to it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

One man warned: \u201cReminder that the water seal is meant for accidents. The seal becomes weak over time, and is only tested in purified water, not in pool water or the sea.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While a woman responded: \u201cNo matter what Kindle, even waterproof, I still wouldn\u2019t do this. My anxiety is up from watching this.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Someone said they\u2019d still want to \u201cuse a clear pouch\u201d when putting it in water.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
