How to apply the clock function<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
To turn on the clock while reading on a Kindle, open any book. Then, tap the top of the screen to open the menu.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Select the Aa icon, choose the More tab and toggle \u2018Show Clock While Reading\u2019 to on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you don\u2019t do this, the clock can be viewed by swiping down from the top of the screen \u2013 but it can get a bit clunky and annoying.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

2. Pick a background<\/h3>\n
Liv urged people to \u201cput a cute little background\u201d on their Kindles to make the reading experience a whole lot better. Of course, you can get adorable cases, but having a nice background can make all the difference too.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For most devices, you can do this by enabling the ‘Show Cover’ feature in your settings. You’ll be able to find it in the Screen & Brightness section.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you have a Kindle and opted for the ads experience, you won\u2019t be able to change your background. Instead, the ads for different books run when your Kindle is locked and not being used.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you want to change your background to reflect the book you\u2019re currently reading, you\u2019ll have to pay to upgrade for no adverts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Depending on the specific model, a Kindle without ads can cost anything from \u00a310 up to \u00a340. This can also be applied retrospectively if you change your mind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So, if you\u2019d like to put a background on, it may be worth considering whether it\u2019s worth the extra money.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

3. Turn on page refresh<\/h3>\n
Finally, Liv added: “While you\u2019re at it, make sure we have page refresh turned on so we don\u2019t get those gross little ink bleeds between pages. It\u2019s called ghosting or something like that\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kindle ghosting is a common phenomenon in which faint remnants of previous pages, text, or images remain visible on the E-Ink screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It happens because E-Ink displays use tiny, physical ink particles that sometimes do not fully return to their original position on screen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It can be seriously annoying when you\u2019re trying to read the page you\u2019re currently on, but you can see remnants of the page you were on previously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

How to turn on page refresh<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
Go to Settings, then Reading Options and toggle Page Refresh on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This forces a full-screen flash with every page turn to clear residues. It really is as easy as that!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
