Stephen King has opened up about his favourite books<\/a> of all time ahead of his latest release.<\/p>\n The veteran novelist gave a reading from Never Flinch, which comes out May 27, before outlining the genres and authors he personally likes to read.<\/p>\n Appearing on the Simon & Schuster Books<\/a> YouTube channel, he said: \u201cI like detective fiction, and I like horror fiction, and I like suspense fiction, but not necessarily in that order\u201d.<\/p>\n King is best-known for his contributions<\/a> to the horror genre, having released titles such as IT<\/a>, Cujo, Salem\u2019s Lot and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n But in recent years, partially down to his Mr Mercedes series, he\u2019s forayed into the world of detective fiction, and his latest book is no different.<\/p>\n King said he\u2019d be interested in writing a \u2018whodunnit\u2019 story, where the reader is confronted with different characters who may have done something terrible and are made to consider who may be the perpetrator of a crime.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Speaking of who he admires, he said: \u201cAgatha Christie, and people like Ruth Ware\u201d.<\/p>\n King continued: \u201cBut I also like books like The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, where you know right away from he start who the bad guy is, and this once, I wanted to try to write something different\u201d.<\/p>\n He then expressed that this meant he \u201chad to have a plot,\u201d saying that \u201cplotted novels\u201d are nothing but \u201ctrouble\u201d to him.<\/p>\n In the video, he then read an excerpt from Never Flinch, explaining that the protagonist Holly Gibney will be \u201cseen as a bodyguard for a famous person.\u201d<\/p>\n He shared that he likes Holly as a character, and that\u2019s why he wanted to continue her story further, after his 2023 novel \u2018Holly\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In the comments of the video, someone wrote: \u201cThere will never be an author that is better than Stephen King.\u201d<\/p>\n Another fan penned: \u201cAnd I am so glad this man continues to write. I am grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHis stories have been entertaining me for some 50 years. Thank you, Mr. King. From a lot of us,\u201d a horror fan praised.<\/p>\n A man wrote: \u201cGrowing up with him as a writer…and I’m going back to the 80s…he is like this crazy uncle you’ve known all your life who gives you some comfort still being around in this crazy world.\u201d<\/p>\n Another said: \u201cI love to see him in such great spirits.
